What is a Sports therapist/therapy?

A Sports therapist is similar to a muscular skeletal physiotherapist. A sports therapist treats injuries with the use of exercise therapy, rehabilitation, manual therapy, massage, electrotherapy, hydrotherapy and hot and cold therapists. This Sports therapist may also include some kinesio taping methods as well. Sports therapy isn’t just for sports athletes but for the general public as well. Sports therapist also can work with sports teams providing treatment and injury prevention advice.

How do I know the Sports therapist has a reliable qualification?

The sports therapist at this business is a full member of the society of sports therapist. To be a member of the society of sports therapists the member must have obtained a degree in Sports therapy BSc (Hons) or above. As the Society of sports therapists are heading for state registration people obtaining qualifications below a degree standard can not become a member of the society of sports therapists.

What would you expect on the initial session?

During the first session the therapist will introduce sports therapy to the client. The therapist will follow this with a detailed assessment of the client’s condition/injury (approx 45 minutes) which will then be followed up be an initial treatment (15-20 minutes approx). The length of the session will depend on the condition (e.g. acute injuries may only take 20 minutes and another initial session may need to be performed, while spinal injuries may take 1 hour 30 minutes). Sessions following initial will have a short reassessment of the condition/injury followed by treatment (Approx. 30minutes – 1hour).
